With three national track titles last week Sir Chris Hoy already showed that his form is good. The fourfold Olympic Champion and ten times World Champion will be the captain of the British team for the European Championships Track Cycling in Omnisport Apeldoorn.

With his appearance on the Omnisport velodrome the now 35-year old sprint phenomenon starts his road to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. That’s the place he wants to win gold again. Hoy is confident for the EC. ‘When I see my results on the nationals, I feel content. This goes for the entire team by the way. We had a long period of training and no one is at 100% at the moment and still the results are there. We are further than we had anticipated. There are still some weeks to go before the EC so you can expect us to become even better. The results in Apeldoorn will show that,’ the living legend of track cycling says.

Interesting detail: one year ago Hoy failed during the sprint tournament of the EC in Poland. The 18-year old Felix English was the slowest rider to qualify but beat Hoy, the fastest qualifier, in the first round.

Eventually Hoy only won a bronze medal on the team sprint in Poland last year. This year Victoria Pendleton will be one of his teammates. The Copenhagen 2010 World Champion of sprint won her 30th national title last week by winning the team sprint. It will be the last one in her career because Pendleton is expected to end her career after the Olympics in her own country.
