W.Walkiewicz: ''It was very good event''
Wojciech Walkiewicz
Wojciech Walkiewicz, President of European Cycling Union, summed up the first in history European Elite Track Championships which took place in Warsaw/Pruszkow on November 5-7th.
Walkiewicz considers the event to be well organized in all aspects. – These first, historical European Elite Track Championships are great success for the whole European Cycling Union. The event showed what the upcoming Track World Cups may look like.
Omnium, the new discipline
It has shown many interesting things. It occurs that the discipline is first of all for track cycling titans and contrary to the common belief there is no division for sprinters and endurance riders. Omnium results in 1km and 4km proved that one can combine these two specialties.
London 2012 Olympic qualifications
- It could be easily seen that not all National Teams were in their optimal shape. There are still 4 months left to the World Championships. Nevertheless, the event perfectly showed us which National Teams will count in the global olympic qualification rivalry.
Commissaires
- I will not judge the work of the commissaire panel. I would only like to underline that in sprint disciplines we cannot allow for too much caution. The rules, however, must be obeyed. On the other hand, we cannot forget that sprint races are attractive thanks to 'shoulder-to-shoulder' rivalry. The audience comes to the velodrome to see fair play rivalry but also pure adrenaline.
Organization
- I really praise both, organizational and sport level of the event. Mr. Czeslaw Lang deserves congratulations for well prepared event. Lang Team has definitely set up high standards for the next organizers. It shall be motivation for them to organize this event well and on the best velodromes in Europe. Once again thanks to the organizers.
